& the grand finale...

Perfect Sunday, just how I like 'em. Awesome morning @ church, mimosas and pancakes for lunch, topped off with frisbee golf in the park & Peruvian quinoa stew made by the maid.

Please take a moment to check out Mike's "frisbee stance" in this picture. No words.

It's days like these that make me particularly thankful for life, good friends, and frisbee golf.

Saturday flew by way too fast. But it included a marathon OM session (3.More.Weeks.)
and a romp in the girlscout park, this time with the hubs.

I'm thankful that we share a love for being in the woods- our favorite thing to do is to explore new places outside , especially with Diego. Coming this week will be a post on the places that must be camped at in 2011.

I love weekends

Friday night:

Lots of wedding and life talk with my bff.
2 months to go, Amers, till you're walkin' down that aisle and basking in the lovely Mexican sun.

Diego loves cuddling with you, btw.

On Thursdays I've decided that I will highlight something in my life that I think is awesome. Last week it was "Going to work and finding you're dressed the same as a coworker."

Today, it's
Doggy Daycare

When I was a child, we didn't care much about the dog. Sure, we walked and fed her everyday. But there was no such thing as dog parks or bringing her out to lunch. No dogs on the beach, no natural dog food, nada.

Diego has a much better life than poor old Clover. He has scheduled puppy play dates with numerous friends. He gets to go to the park where he can swim to his heart's content. He even gets to go to doggy daycare when Mom has a long day at work, where he gets to play all day.
What is this world coming to?

no words.

I thought "Surely the guys will be ridiculously productive without the girls around."

"Give them tools and they'll get right to work," right?

2 hours later and all that was done is this:

2 rods screwed into wood. Wow.

Sometimes when I work with my OM kids I feel like I'm herding cats.

i love this.

There's this store downtown that has the best prints ever from "Curly Girl Design." Although I've gone into the store and read them a hundred times now, I can't help but tear up or giggle every time I read them. So if you have a moment, check out her website. Here are my favs... and I love them cause they make me think of myself or of the people i love...

i think i'll buy them all

boring.

Yesterday's picture is boring. I was not off on a big adventure. Or eating delicious foods (although Annie made enchiladas and they were fabulous.) I was simply creating a last-minute video for wyldlife after coming home from an exhausting om meeting and day of school in which i spent most of the day telling preteens to be quiet and sit down and put their hands over their mouths. I was pretty proud of that video, too, which includes me with edward cullen (if you want to waste time go here.)

too bad there was a glitch and the video did not get emailed in time. fail.

my momma

my mom in all of her toutie-wah-ness is on a tennis team and played in her first tournament this weekend which happened to be close by. Hooray for mom time!

I never tire of cruising downtown. especially if it's with my momma & sister

We also ate breakfast at Manatee Cafe. I think I'm in love...
i had a breakfast burrito with eggs, hummus, sweet potato, avocado & sprouts... mmmmm.... and believe me, I'm usually a pancake and eggs kind of girl. But this was fabulous.

i love my mom. and Annie's okay too.

Recipe for a perfect afternoon:

First you take a nap.

Then, tetherball.

Add a creepy old cabin...

... a romp in the woods...

and then marvel over the old girl scout tree houses that you can camp out in for a mere $15 a night.
(Yes, please.)

End with a good ol' fashion preachin'.

and there ya have it.

the post you've all been waiting for

I've been looking forward to this posting for a looong time, just waiting for the right moment. Now seems like the perfect time as I'm laying here in the hammock on this melancholy afternoon wearing my sock monkey pjs... with a view of the main road in our neighborhood. I'll just pretend my yard has trees and I'm in the woods...

Anyways, without further ADO (not adieu,) I'm excited to present to you a list of

BOOKS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE
And contrary to popular belief, ever book I read does NOT change my life. And also, the Bible is a given.

Literally "Life Changers"

The Rest that I love that maybe didn't technically change my life, but were still the best ever:

Water for Elephants
Time Traveler's Wife
A Thousand Splendid Suns
The World According to Garp
The Samurai's Garden
Hind's Feet on High Places
Crazy Love
Irresistible Revolution
Half-Broke Horses
The Five Love Languages
Something Borrowed
The Notebook
The Shack
A Voice in the Wind

YA books that every grownup should read:

The Book Thief
if you come softly
A Wrinkle in Time
The Hunger Games
Harry Potter(s)
Unwind
Sold

I'm still working on this post an hour later. I'm going to Cabo Taco now.

Unplanned twin day

Today's post is inspired by the blog of awesome. When I'm feeling blue, bored, or absolutely insane,  I go to the site for an instant pick-me-up. So, here's my own awesome thing of the day.

#1 Showing up at work and finding that you are unplanned twins with a coworker

Now this might not be everyone's idea of awesome.
In fact, some people might find it mortifying if that coworker's style is out of the ordinary.
But I believe there's something sweet about that moment of revelation where you say,
"Hey! We are such good friends and cool people that
we even dress the same!"

Awesome.

I think I will do an awesome thing of the week from now on.

This is what productivity looks like:

God bless planning days. I wish we could have one every week. I know what I'm doing ALL QUARTER in both grades and by golly, that's never happened before. Maybe I'm getting this teacher thing down... maybe God gave me supernatural focusing abilities to get it done... maybe I'm just growing up. I even came home and organized the office.

By the way, read this book if you haven't already:

I think it just changed my life.

OM

In elementary and middle school student I participated in Odyssey of the Mind for a number of years. We put our reputations on the line as we created our skits, sang songs, sewed costumes, all for the chance of making it to 'State' and even 'World' competitions. And you know what? Who cares if we were made fun of and there's now embarrassing footage of me dressed up as a flower or Cleopatra or whatever. It was worth it!

When the opportunity arose to create an OM team for our school, I just couldn't say no. Despite the long hours after school with hyper adolescents and weekend meetings teaching them how to use a sewing machine and hammer, the junk taking over your garage...... it's worth it, too. In our ridiculous world of iphones and youtube, data and standardized testing, creativity tends to get the boot. I'm glad there's a place that these students can say, "I've finally found a place where there's other people that are crazy LIKE ME!"

And when our skit, set design, & costumes miraculously  come together in a month (gagging sounds) I'll sit back and breathe a sigh of relief as my kiddos shine up on stage.

Picnic in the... car...

The cleaning lady, Mike & I packed a lunch intending to have a picnic after church.
Instead, we somehow wound up in the DSW parking lot.

We finally made it to the park at UNF where Mike and I used to go when we lived at our old apartment. Annie made us play frisbee. Check out my skills:
 (#16)
*Note that the frisbee is already past me. At least I got air.

Mike's got better skills

Yaaaay for park days!

here's to the weekend

Saturday was lazy, just how I like it. Full of a whole lotta nothing and cleaning. But it did involve Diego wearing his new collar that Annie knit for him. We call it a 'lounging collar.' I think she should sell it on Etsy.

But the real excitement came when we drove to Jax Beach to celebrate Astin turning a quarter of a century old. Astin's girlfriend Emily has been a friend of mine since high school. We randomly ran into each other at the farmer's market in Gainesville a couple years ago when she switched colleges... then she ended up in Jacksonville, too, around the time that we moved. They are the best and always up for an outdoor adventure. Happy day of birth, Astin!

So what do you do for fun when you live in St. Augustine and you're not at work?

You take your cleaning lady out and eat heavenly things at 'The Floridian'

(like this sweet potato & black bean burger)

then you eat some more
(like this chocolate peanut butter cupcake from LuLi's)

you also introduce the cleaning lady to the pretty tree road

and find that you can get into the fountain of youth for free!

the cleaning lady does not like me to take pictures of her because she thinks taking pictures of every aspect of your life is stupid. her face is stupid, i say. so does amy webster winter

and then, my friends, if you are lucky...
you pull up at a stoplight behind a truck filled with hostess cakes!

too bad the light changed.
